Abstract

The insular butterfly fauna of the Bay islands represented by 236 taxa is unique with high percentage of endemicity. Significant efforts made by Government of India, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, NGO’s and the author are insufficient as half of the fauna elements are recorded in recent. The threat posed by various development schemes on the biodiversity of fauna needs concrete measures for their in-situ and ex-situ conservation by removing various bottlenecks.
