Abstract
Studies were conducted in dry temperate zone of Himachal Pradesh atg six locations (Kilba, Shongtong, Kalpa, Ribba, Moorang and Thangi) to study phytosociological attributes. Densities (tree, shrub and herb), tree parameters (diameter at breast height, basal area, height, volume and age), nutrient contents in green foliage (needles) and litter, nutrient removal in litter and deodar tree productivity. Deodar tree and shrub densities ranged from 350-800 tree ha-1, and 2600-5600 shrub ha-1, respectively. Mean annual volume increment (MAVI) varied from 0.33-2.88 (formula volume) and 0.26-2.18 m3 ha-1, yr-1, (local volume tables). Amount of forest litter produced was less at higher altitude and varied from 2793-4860 kg ha-1, N and K contents were lower in litter and those of Ca, Mg and micronutrient cations (Zn, Cu, Fe and Mn) higher as compared to concentration in green foliage. P, Mg and S concentration were comparable both in litter and foliage.
