Abstract
The scale insect, Anomalococcus indicus Ayyar Ramakrishna (Lecanodiaspididae: Homoptera) caused on an average 9.1% mortality of babla (Acacia nilotica) in roadside strip plantations of central and north-western Bangladesh. The infestation was severe during the drier months. Most of the trees were found dead by March-April. A dead or dying twigs having 2.54 cm girth at the base harboured as many as 125.6 ± 7.8 to 230.1 ± 3.7 scales in an area of 38.1 cm2. A chalcid wasp. Elasmus indicus was found parasitizing causing about 30% mortality of the scale. Phosphamidon 100 EC followed by dicrotophos 85 EC each at a concentration of 0.1% a.i. were found to be effective in controlling the pest.
