Insect Pests of Gloriosa superba Linn. – An Indian Medicinal Plant

Abstract

Fourteen insect pests, viz., Diabolocatantops pinguis (Walk.), Oxya fuscovittata (March), Monolepta signata (Oliv.), Curculio sp., Myllocerus undecimpunctatus (Faust), M. viridanus (Feb.), Ptochus sp., Amsacta lactinea (Cram), Utethesia pulchella (Linn.), Plusia signata (Feb.), Polytela gloriosae (Fab.), Archips micaceana (Walk.) Lygaeus hospes (Fab.) and Graptostethus servus (Fab.) have been observed as pests of Gloriosa superba Linn. during the course of study from Gandhi Krishi Vignana Kendra, Campus of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore. Of these Polytela gloriosae was considered as a major defoliator causing severe loss to the cultivator.
