Abstract
In vitro germination and development of plantlets and their subsequent establishment in nursery and field, from the excised embryo cultures of Couroupita guianensis (Cannon Ball Tree) is successful. The seeds collected from 7-8 months old fruits and sown directly in the soil did not show any germination. While, the embryos that were rescued from fruits of same age and cultured on half strength MS medium supplemented with low level of the cytokinin BA (0.1 mg/l), showed very fast germination and development of plantlets. About 95% of cultured embryos developed into plantlets and after hardening, these plantlets were established in the field with 100% survival rate.
