Abstract

Assessment of the storage potential of Hardwickia binata seeds subjected to various pre treatment with growth with growth regulator (ethrel 200 ppm) and nutrient solution (KNO3 2%) cold water and dried to safe moisture content (9%) and stored in cloth and 700 gauge polythene bags for 10 months under ambient condition was made. The unsoaked and cold water soaked seeds served as control. The details of pretreatment have been provided in the text. Among the pretreatments, the seeds pretreated with ethrel 200 ppm after water soaking recorded the maximum germination (48.3 per cent) and vigour (1409), irrespective of the storage container. All the seeds lost their viability after ten months of storage. The results revealed the effectiveness of ethrel 200 ppm pretreatment after cold water soaking of Hardwickia binata seeds in prolonging the viability up to eight months with higher germination and vigour. The seeds stored in polythene bags maintained maximum seed quality under ambient conditions.
