Abstract

Trees and forests are one of the most bountiful and versatile renewable resources gifted to making by nature. Tree wealth plays a vital role in the life and economy of many tribals of Uttar Pradesh is inhabited by a large number of tribal in the hill region, terai region and in the plains. There are about 3000 plants species that yield important forest produce and provide sustenance to the tribal people as well as have some commercial importance. The tribals of Uttar Pradesh have learnt to utilize many trees and tree products for their food, fibre, medicine, oil, timber and wood-work, gums, resin, lac, tannin, dye, fuel-wood, etc., which are presented in this paper. The protective ecological role of trees is vital to our environment, hence the global anxiety and concern for their protection. There is enormous potential of tree wealth in Uttar Pradesh for establishing plant based industries for human welfare.
