Abstract
In forestry progeny testing I the foremost requirement for undertaking genetic improvement, as it apportions the genetic and environmental components of variation. In the present study 58 half-sib families of chir pine were evaluated at the age of 5 years, with respect to some indirect traits. The entire data were statistically analysed and significant differences were found ‘between’ and ‘within’ families with respect to all characters. Heritabilities and genetic gains were determined and it was found that better results can be achieved, it more intensive family selection is done. Simple correlation and regression equations were also fitted.
