Abstract
Callus initiated from germinating seeds of Azadirachta indica A. Juss. was maintained on a modified Murashige and Skoog medium. Organogenesis occurred in tissues subcultured onto medium supplemented with various growth substances. Undifferentiated callus tissues and seeds without testa were extracted with hexane. The extract was treated with 500 µl each of methanol and diazomethane, then standardized with 100 µl of squalene. An analysis by mass spectrometry indicated eight fatty acids in callus tissues; myristic, palmitic, stearic, oleic, linoleic, arachidic and behemic. Four fatty acids; palmitic, stearic, oleic and linoleic were found in the seed extract.
