Influence of Parent Rock on Physical and Chemical Properties of Soils Developed Under Natural Forest Condition in Nagri Range, South Raipur (M.P.)

Abstract

The soil profiles developed over gneiss and dolerite occurring in the similar climatic region and natural forest cover were studied for some physical and chemical properties. The influence of parent rock is subdued in the solum as evident from the soil properties. Gneiss rock weathered more slowly than dolerite. Dolerite soils were rich in clay content, exchangeable cation, P.B.S. and C.E.C. The significant differences in finer fraction ratio, E.C., P.B.S., C.E.C. and sum of exchangeable cations were observed in these two different soil profiles. Overall growth of Sal was found to be better on doleritic soil contrary to gneiss soil.
