Abstract
Leaf blight of Chukrasia tabularis A. Juss., a new disease caused by Phytophthora nicotianne van Breda de Haan is recorded for the first time India and described. The disease occurred widely in forest nurseries. The incidence of the disease varied from 30-80 per cent and defoliation from 2-100 per cent. Plants below 20 cm height showed maximum damage to the foliage with about 20-100 per cent defoliation whereas those above 40 cm showed marginal defoliation varying from 2-10 per cent. Circumstantial evidences indicated the possibility of other hosts plant debris acting as the primary source of infection in forest nurseries where seedlings of C. tabularis were raised for the first time. Control of the disease has been discussed.
