Abstract
The succession of wood-rotting fungi during the general pathways of fungal decomposition of wood is a common phenomenon in nature. Apart from the general pathways, a more stricter kind of succession called (successor-predecessor) also exists in some wood-rotting fungi especially polypores. Nine species, mostly of polypores were found to inhabit such trees that were previously decayed by certain specific species. The successor emerges only after the preceding fungus has died and often fruits on the dead basidiocarps of the predecessors. This phenomenon, besides affecting the fungal species diversity estimation of an area, also deserves a special attention in nature conservation.
