Abstract
The performance of 10 Gmelina arborea Linn. clones were studied in a provenance trial. Tree characteristics considered included survival rate, circumference, tree height, volume yields, form factor and per cent branchiness. Results 12 years after establishment indicated that provenances 11 from Brazil and 6 from Malawi are the most promising for large scale plantations. However, other clones need special attention especially in genetic improvement programs. It is suggested that the trial be continued to an older age for further confirmation.
