Abstract
Studies were conducted in Chilgoza pine (Pinus gerardiana Wall.) to see the effects of potting mixture, fertilizer and mulching on the seedling performance. Soil, sand, moss and FYM (1:1:1:1) has given maximum height (23.67 cm), while soil, sand and moss in equal proportion resulted in larger caliper growth (1.24 cm) of seedlings. Maximum survival was recorded in ordinary soil collected from chilgoza forest. Application of 0.5 g calcium ammonium nitrate (CAN) + 1.56 g superphosphate (SP) + 0.42 g muriate of potash (MOP) produced best seedling performance. Maximum 79 per cent survival of the seedlings was achieved in 1/2” layer sawdust mulch whereas, height and caliper growth were best in 1/2" layer needle mulch collected from chilgoza forest.
