Abstract
The effect of different combinations of overburden samples and compost as well as different sources of nitrogen on the distribution of nutrients in different plant parts as well as biomass production of Albizia procera in coal mine over-burden of Talcher, Orissa was studied. Results indicated that for different nitrogenous fertilizers applied @ 150 ppm with basal dose of 25 ppm P2O5 and 100 ppm K2O, maximum amounts of nutrients were accumulated when ammonium sulphate was applied followed by ammonium chloride and urea. In overburden-compost mixture, nutrient accumulation was highest in 1:2 overburden-compost combination followed by 1:1 and 1:0.5. Compost served a better medium when mixed in higher proportion for the growth, development and nutrient availability of plants.
