Abstract

In a study of provenance variation in Acacia nilotica, a parameter, number of nodes within the clear bole-length was counted and variation studied. With the growth in age of the seedlings, more number of branches were produced and some got pruned automatically from below, thereby increasing the clear bole-length. Therefore, the number of node-marks were taken as indications of the number of branches got self-prunned. The study revealed significant variation among provenances indicating the character to be genetically controlled.
