Possible role of water and nutrients concerning the mortality of Sal (Shorea robusta) in South Raipur

Abstract

Green leaves of different species including Sal of various stages of mortality in different girth classes were analysed for nutrient content in order to assess the probable cause of Sal mortality. Water deficit in leaves was also estimated. The results indicate that higher water deficit in young crop of Sal as reflected by water deficit in leaves coupled with less supply of calcium, magnesium and manganese may be the possible reason for the large scale Sal mortality of middle aged crops.
