Abstract
Nitrogen is usually a limiting plant nutrient in soils despite its superabundance in the atmosphere as insert N2 and its fixation as ammonia by prokaryotes. In mangrove ecosystems nitrogen is considered to be the major limiting nutrient because of anaerobic conditions of habitats and potential role of dinitrification. To fulfill the requirement of nitrogen, mangroves utilized the atmospheric nitrogen in form of ammonium sulphate aerosol through stomatal absorption or fix the atmospheric nitrogen with the help nitrogen fixing bacteria present in warty lenticellate part of stem bark in a few trees.
