Abstract

In afforested stands of Chir (Pinus roxburghii Sargent) the stem rust Cronartium himalayense Bagchee is causing heavy mortality in young plantations. The rust afternates on an annual weed Swertia angustifolia Buch.-Ham. ex D. Don. In the areas studied in Central Himalaya (Tehri and Pauri districts in U.P.) a hyperparasitic Cladosporium cladosporioides (Fresen). De Varies was isolated from the telial columns. This is the first report of this kind and its role as biological control agent is being discussed.
