Abstract
Seven species of birds were recorded in Pomegranate orchards, of which, Rose-ringed Parakeets (Psittacula krameri) and House-Crow (Corvus splendens) were predominant and inflicting damage to the fruits at rind and variation stages. The damage was inflicted exclusively by the parakeets while at ripened stage it was mainly by House Crows and other smaller birds mentioned in the text. At rind stage, the damage caused by the parakeets was compensated by the healing factors of fruits probably due to presence of tannin in the fruits. The cumulative damage estimated at variation and ripened stages by birds was 6.79 and 9.81 per cent, respectively. There was no significant difference in damage to fruits on the outer periphery and central part of the orchards. However, fruit damage on the branches in the upper canopy was more than in the lower canopy.
