Abstract

The paper describes leaf spotting and blight, a new disease of Syzygium cumini, caused by Cylindrocladium quinqueseptatum and Cylindrocladium sp. from India. An account of disease symptoms, epidemiology and damage to seedling crop is given. The disease is managed effectively by treating the seedlings with Dithane M-45 (0.1%) in combination with Bavistin (0.05%) as foliar spray at weekly intervals starting from 10th of September. Five applications of the fungicides are recommended. A comparison of the biomass between treated and untreated seedlings showed reduction in plant biomass to the extent of 772% in the latter.
